Q. What software platforms do you run on your servers?

  • Linux server - CentOS release 5.7 (Final)
  • Apache web server version 2.2.3-45
  • PHP scripting module version 5.3
  • Perl scripting language version 5.8.8
  • MySQL database server version 5.0.37
  • MySQL database client and libraries version 5.0.77
    • WordPress would contain the MySQL database client

Q. Do you provide CGI scripts?

A. We do not have any pre-installed CGI/Perl or PHP scripts. However, you can install almost any CGI/Perl or PHP shopping cart. Our domain hosting accounts have full privileges for installing CGI/Perl & PHP scripts.

Q. If I wanted to allow clients/employees to share files on an ftp site, how would this work? Do you support .htaccess?

A. The primary FTP login for the domain will allow direct access to the server and anyone who logs in with that information will have full read and write access to all of the folders and files that have been uploaded to the site. This one login can be shared by multiple users to gain access to the server and share the files. However, if separate multiple logins are needed to download files over HTTP, this is accomplished through the use of what is known as HTACCESS. Click here, for more information.

Q. What platforms are not supported?

  • FrontPage extensions
  • Microsoft's Active Server Page (ASP) technology
  • Java Server Pages (JSP)
  • ColdFusion (CFM)

Q. Do you offer Hosted Exchange?

A. We do not offer any Microsoft Exchange services. If a subscriber runs their own Exchange server and hosts the domain here, we can assist with modifying DNS records to point to it.

Q. How do I manage a MySQL database once it has been added to a domain?

A. Install phpMyAdmin. You might also consider using mysql query browser, which is an easily installable Windows application downloadable at mysql's main website.

Q. What port does your mysql run on?

A. MySQL runs on standard port 3306.

Q. Do you provide Wordpress and Joomla script installs?

A. Our servers support Joomla and Wordpress. Those applications have to be installed by the user.

Q. What is DNS?

A. DNS stands for Domain Name System.

  • The Internet uses a numbering system called "IP addresses" to find computers or other devices on the Internet.
  • Because an IP address is a number that is difficult to remember, a system called the Domain Name System was invented to associate a domain name, e.g., example.com, to an IP address, e.g., 1.160.10.240.
  • Every Web server or email service requires a DNS server to translate domain names into IP addresses.
  • DNS service is included in the cost for all Domain Hosting services and Domain Parking.
